Kappa Alpha Theta holds academic excellence as its highest priority. We have utilized a series of programs and incentives to keep our members focused and motivated. Among these, we have MEA, or Member Education Assistant Program. This involves a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior serving as academic mentors for our newest members. The MEA leaders and the new members are paired up based on their majors in order to receive the most benefits from this particular program.
As for incentives for members who excel in their academics, we offer multiple rewards such as Scholar Dollars. Scholar Dollars is a points program that allows members to purchase prizes such as gift cards, Coach wristlets, and Theta gear with their Scholar Dollars. Girls can earn scholar dollars by attending optional study hours, receiving A’s in their classes, or being a member of an academic honor society. It’s a fun way to get members excited about school and give them the chance to be rewarded for their diligence.
One of our continued favorites is the Smarty Panties board. If a member receives an A on a test, project, or paper, they can put their name on the board so that they are entered into a weekly drawing for a $20 Victoria’s Secret gift card.
A new installment this year has been the Theta Book Exchange. This is a website where the Thetas of Rho Chapter can post the books they need for the upcoming semester or book they want to sell to other Thetas. This saves the ladies of the chapter money by buying and selling their used books.
Kappa Alpha Theta has continued its commitment to academic excellence and the enrichment of collegiate life. We designed our academic program to help our members develop the intellectual skills they need to succeed, not only in their careers, but throughout their lives.
Kappa Alpha Theta creates and maintains an atmosphere that stimulates scholarship and achievement among its members. The concern to achieve the highest academic standard is of utmost importance to the women of Kappa Alpha Theta. Every semester it is Theta’s goal to achieve one of the top GPA’s on campus, and we have reached this goal numerous times. In the Fall 2011 semester, the ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta received an overall house GPA of 3.501, which is above the all sorority house average.
Kappa Alpha Theta expects each member to achieve high scholarship and to develop to the fullest her intellectual, cultural, and social potential. Each chapter is required to set a definite scholarship average which members must maintain in order to retain the social privileges of active membership.
In addition, each chapter is expected to maintain an average above the All-Sorority Average (ASA) on its campus, and chapter bylaws shall establish specific grade requirements for officers.
